Hi, my name is Madeline Berger. I have practiced in various social work roles within elementary schools and community mental health centers in Indiana and Michigan for the last 10 years. I currently hold a temporary clinical social work license in the state of Indiana, and I am studying to take my clinical exam this summer! I believe in the DBT assumption that individuals are doing the best they can with the tools they have, and that they want to improve. I’ve enjoyed working with children, adolescents and adults to navigate anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, life challenges/ big transitions, as well as adults with substance use disorders and borderline personality disorder. My therapeutic style is validating, encouraging and educational. I bring a compassionate, strengths-based approach to therapy that prioritizes the individuals’ goals while integrating evidence-based research and best practices. My work is rooted in trauma-informed care and resilience-building practices that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Matrix Curriculum, and Motivational Interviewing. I have also experienced and witnessed so many benefits to relying on a higher power within difficult times, which often translates into speaking about Christianity. So much serenity can be gained in having a relationship with God. If the client is open to it, I would be honored to incorporate their faith into therapy sessions. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work, a Master of Social Work, and a Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership, which uniquely equips me to support individuals through both personal and community-level crises. In my spare time, you can find me at the beach, going on walks or runs with my dog Lucy, kayaking, going to church, attending community events, or spending time with my family.
